Kanakdhara Stotra (Suvarnadhara Stotram) is not an ordinary Stotra. It is a Siddh Mantra created by the great philosopher Saint Adi Shankaracharya Ji, considered the incarnation of the Supreme deity Lord Shiva. Many devotees also refer to it as Swarna Dhara Stotra. Some even call it Swarna Dhara Stotra, as it symbolizes a golden flow of blessings.
In Hinduism, it is only Goddess Lakshmi that can change one’s fortune and destiny.
The 21 verses in the Kanakdhara Stotra extol the beauty, kindness, and generosity of Goddess Lakshmi. It is a prayer for getting prosperity, abundance, and peace from Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees chanting Kanakdhara Stotra daily or participating in a Yagya experience remarkable spiritual and financial growth.
Significance of Shri Kanakdhara Stotram
Kanak means gold and Dhara means flow. So, ‘Kanakdhara’ literally translates to “a stream or shower of gold.” It means that Goddess Lakshmi showers her blessings in the form of prosperity, wealth, and grace upon the worshipper.
This is a very powerful wealth-attracting mantra that has the power to give you infinite abundance and blessings in life. The person for whom our Siddh priests recite the Kanakdhara Stotra along with offerings to the divine fire (Agni Deva) never faces any lack of money. Prosperity never leaves their home. Even those who are facing financial problems get relief and are blessed with abundance.
The Power of Kanakdhara Stotram on Dhanteras and Diwali
Dhanteras and Deepawali are the two most powerful days in the entire year when the energy of Mahalakshmi reaches its maximum flow on Earth.
Reciting the Shri Kanakdhara Stotra on these days aligns your prayer with the cosmic vibration of Lakshmi Tattva, making the chanting many times more effective. When it is done as a Kanakdhara Puja Yagya by Siddh priests in your name, the results multiply manifold.
In Kanakdhara Pooja Yagya, Agni acts as a divine messenger carrying your prayers to Goddess Lakshmi. The vibrations of Kanakdhara mantras, when chanted collectively with correct swaras, create a golden energy field.
Performed at the most auspicious Deepawali muhurat, this Yagya neutralizes financial karmas and opens the flow of divine grace in all forms: wealth, happiness, peace, and fulfillment.

The Divine Formation of Kanakdhara Stotram
In Kalyug, around 796–798 CE, Adi Shankaracharya, during his Brahmachari Bhikshatana, visited a poor Brahmin lady’s home. She had nothing to offer him. No grains, no fruits, not even water. She was sorrowful. Yet, with a heart full of devotion, she offered a single dried gooseberry (amla) respectfully in the bowl of Shri Adi Shankaracharya.
Moved by her selflessness, Shri Adi Shankaracharya invoked Mahalakshmi through the Kanakdhara Stotra. He recited all the 21 Shlokas in the hymn in the praise of Goddess Lakshmi and she was very pleased with him and appeared before Shri Adi Shankaracharya and asked the reason behind his prayer.
Adi Shankaracharya Ji pleaded her to grant wealth to the Brahmin lady. Laxmi Ji said that the Brahmin lady was not qualified to get any wealth in her current life because of her Karmas in her past life, so Goddess Laxmi was hesitant to grant the request.
On this, Adi Shankaracharya Ji respectfully explained that despite being poor and nothing to offer, the Brahmin lady still gave him an Amla fruit with so much devotion and respect and this one act justify her truly deserving of divine wealth and prosperity.
After hearing this, Maa Laxmi was immensely pleased with the reasoning and explanation of by Shri Adi Shankaracharya and golden amlas began to rain upon her home. It was a divine blessing that washed away her poverty forever. Since that day, this stotra has been considered one of the most powerful prayers to Goddess Lakshmi for removing financial blockages and attracting divine prosperity.
Adi Shankaracharya Ji, born in Kalady, Kerala around 788 CE, was a divine incarnation of Lord Shiva. In his short life of just 32 years, he established four mathas (Ashrams) across India, and instructed his 4 disciples to teach and propagate Advaita through them and they are still continuing even today. When such a divine saint forms Siddh hymns, their power are immense.
